Hey Everyone,

I have a 1993 3.0, Ranger 4x2 that just blew it's manual transmission. From what I understand it has the Mazda M50D-R1. The code on the stock tranny is F27A, XA, A992831.

My problem is finding the right replacement. I found a manual transmission out of a 2000 4x4 ranger, 3.0 engine. Supposedly it also has the M50D-R1 tranny...sourced from this site. Thing is that the tranny code, F87A, DA, D634451 on the replacment is completely different. I figured they would shared some part of the code.

So you gurus will it bolt right up with a tail housing swap (4x4 to 4x2)?

Thanks for the help!

you can swap the tailhousing between 4wd and 2wd transmission...but the real problem is the mainshaft is also different between the two. this requires complete disassembly of both transmission to swap everything from one to the other...not fun.

i would hit ebay, craigslist, or range further from home to find a junkyard with the proper 2wd transmission.

alright thanks for the info....i'll keep a lookout for a 2wd unit. just to make sure i'm correct though; so long as it has a 3.0 engine it should be a direct replacement right? regardless of inidividual code numbers?

yep. any 2wd 3.0 trans would work. the 3.0 has only ever been backed by one manual transmission in the ranger.
