I am bored of the sound of my 4.0 Ranger, it sounds like it has no balls. But it does! What options do I have to make it sound good (NO RICER SHIT). I've heard glasspacks, flowmaster, etc. I just don't know too much. I have access to the tools, I just need to learn, edjumucate me, guys.
 
as far as flowmasters goes, anything 40 or 44 makes the the deep truck sound(louder) 50 and 70 are more clasic hot rod (good sound but not asloud)

classpacks and cherry bombs ect are cheep generic pos and getto imho
 
flow 40. I just put one on my truck and it sounds pretty good. Really deep and throaty until about 3500rpm. Then it sounds like a v-6 for sure

Do you have to have dual exhaust to run a flowmaster 40? can you just use stock pipes and replace your stock muffler with the flowmaster?

Thats exactly what I did. I rerouted the exhaust out in front of the rear tire. But I put the flow on my stock pipes.SI/SO muffler BTW

You can replace just the muffler if you wish, but you will not get anykind of good sound unless you change the whole pipe to 2.5". You can run Flowmaster on a single in and single out also. I have the 2.5 from the catback & OG 40 on my 94 3.0 and I love the sound. If you want a good sound and deep get a 2.5" from the catback with the same kind of Flowmaster that I have.

Exhaust shop did mine for 60 bucks with the super44 and it sounds bad ass, I got 2.5 from cat to muffler, then dumped right after the the muffler with 3" sounds awesome and saves me gas cuz I bog it to hear the deep tone lol
 
i feel asleep at work:sad: and didnt do my exhause but i have to do it tonight i have the super 44 and all the adapters for go from 2''(stock) to 2.5 inches and exit right infront of the rear tire. the muff is one in and one out. my bill is $120 bucks

is that including the cost of the 2.5 pipe?
the super 44 costs around 100 on autopartswarehouse
so theres 100, then theres the pipe, then theres labor
 
my super 44 was 85ish if you dump it out in front of the rear tire all you need are adapters and a 90 degree elbow. which is like 20 to 30 bucks and do it all your self. it takes a 14 mm socket and some caffeine and a sawall :headbang:

i dont need anything fancy, just want some decent improvement
 
i just finished my install at 3 oclock in da morning. and its the way to go.:yahoo: sounds nice fits well in stock location. and not at all as loud as i was thinking inside the cab cruising with the radio on and you wont even hear it. i rolled the window down and got on it. and i got a lil chubby super 44 the way to go.
 
have either of you guys run an aftermarket muffler through the stock tailpipe?

it sounds fine.

to the OP, i would just start by replacing the muffler, reusing all your original piping. worst case scenerio, you can cut the stock tailpipe off later and replace it with something else. im willing to bet you'll like the way it sounds through the factory tailpipe just fine.

thought about it, but the i wanted it to dump out infront of my rear tire, i got a 2'->2.5in adapter, new muffler, 2.5'' 90 degree elbow. tip and a new hanger.

and done. took me longer to take the oem out then to put the new one in.

I bet you're right, all i hear now is the fuckin whine of the power steering if i got my window down =/. I assume i'll need some adapters if i throw a 2.5 on there?
