i got a 94 ranger 4.0 5spd 4x4 & when the truck is off the trans shifts smooth through all the gears but when its on its some times hard to get into gear, sometimes i have to move the shifter to the left and back in to reverse to get it to go in,

i thought it was the clutch not disengaging all the way but im not sure

I would check the slave cylinder.

Pull the rubber inspection groumet and look with a flash light into the bellhousing. See if it is leaking. You may also be able to run your finger on the inner part the bell housing. Check if it's wet.

Is the clutch master cylinder a little low?

These things have a tendancy to go out every 70k-80k.

oh also it seems to go into gear a bit easier when i push the clutch in as far as it will go

+1 Check the slave cylinder. Mine went out a couple of weeks ago and had the same symptoms. When the truck is on do you try all the gears or do you go straight to reverse?
