I am going smogless in my 302 swap on a '92 Supercab. I pulled out the gas lines and was wondering, what would I do with the unused line that runs from the top of the gas tank to the charcoal canister?

OK, let me rephrase this:

Can I run a line from the top of the gas tank to a separate filter, like a mini-crankcase filter, and mount it somewhere safe so that the vapors won't be an issue?

Ya you could do that.

On my mustang, i've got a section of hose about a foot long off from the top of the tank that just vents to the atmosphere, never had a problem.

if it were me, id put a check valve on the end of the vent line as well.

a roll over is bad enough without your fuel running freely out of the tank all over the place.

when i did it on my mustang i found the top of the tank had a "rollover" valve in it before the line. but i would make sure you have a check valve in it and run the eline down to atmosphere. wicked totally right you think a rollover blows. wait till you rollover busts into flames

The factory adapter in the tank will have a check valve in it. Any tree hugger will want a canister on it but it will work just the same without one too.

This thread is a little old, but I didn't want to make baddad mad at me:D:icon_thumby:

I was wondering, is it safe to leave the tube out in the atmosphere or is it safer to hook the canister back up?

This is in storage for 7 months at a time, so I'm afraid of vapor build up and possible explosion/fire.

you could just hook it up similar to the original setup and it will continue to work. it doesn't affect performance at all and helps you save the gas that evaporates
