So i have a 88 ford ranger 5sp 4wd (no idea what trans). For the last year i have really had to slow down to shift from 3rd to 2nd. Now it is hard to get into every gear. Like it wont come out of 1st or any gear with out moving it just right or forcing it. When i force it it grinds. Any help appreciated

How's the fluid look? Is it full? How manyh miles on it? Does double clutching help?

been awhile since i checked fluid, so i cant safely say its perfect but i suspect it to be ok. Double clutching doesnt help. Today i drove it and it was fine but i didnt romp on it. I put a slave cylinder in it last winter so im sure thats fine

I'd check the fluid color and fill level for starters.

Check that the CLUTCH is releasing properly. Transmission problems in ALL gears are not terribly likely.

Make sure the firewall isn't tearing out where the slave is mounted. That happened on my '91.

My 88 5 speed shifts smoothly when cold but when it is hot it grinds 3rd-4th unless I pull 3rd, pause and then catch 4th... Any ideas?
