hi im new to this site but i have a question about my exhaust. the truck has been sitting for about 3 years im just getting back on the road and i need to put an new exhaust on ill be using the stock cats then i got a 3 inch cherrybomb. is the 3 inch to open for the stock 4.0 im open for suggestions

you could put a 2.5 and attach it to the 3 3 is alittle to big

according to flowmaster 2.5 inch tubing is the best for 4.0 engines... im having mine installed next week so hopefully it will sound good :icon_hornsup:

3" is too big for a low revving engine like the 4.0. its going to hurt your bottom end performance.

i wouldnt go larger than 2.5".

ok perhaps ill go back to the parts store and get the 2.5 and save the 3 for a project i got in mind gen1 351w c-6 :icon_surprised:

Somewhere in my collection of books I have a copy of an engineering based book on exhaust systems. See the Amazon Site below.

In the book, the general consensus of the researchers was that a single exhaust worked better with a six cylinder because of an harmonic related to the firing order and the exhaust pulse timing. At that time the I6 we were racing had duals. We built a single exhaust system and tried it on the dyno. It was years ago, but I remember that the difference was enough that we completely redesigned the system on the race car. The difference held even after we added mufflers a year later. Just FYI
