I have a 93' Ranger 4wd, with a set of Hercules Avalanche Xtreme light truck tires on it, they were off my Bronco II. They are 215/75/15. Last winter, when I had them on the Bronco I got stuck back in the woods (bronco was 2wd posi), and chewed up some of the sidewall and tread on one of the tires, the shop said it was ok. But, I know have these same tires mounted on my ranger and im noticing the bad tire looks like the tread is starting to seperate, can I replace just this one tire or do I need to get a brand new set for the entire truck?

I knew that, but I was told that even a bit of wear difference can be enough to mess up your driveline with a 4wd.

Ok thats what I wanted to hear, thanks! I should be able to get another couple of winters out of this set.

It will be fine with a 4WD. Things like the new subies that have symmetrical AWD need them to be damn near perfect otherwise it messes up the whole AWD system. I'm no expert on awd vehicles since I dont really like them, and that is just one more reason!

some AWD explorers will have false activation of the AWD if the tire wear isnt even on all 4 corners.

but rangers are 4wd and dont have this problem. as long as all 4 tires have the same size stamped on the sidewall, youre fine.
