last night i wne into the ditch doin about 5mph the snow was up to my drivers side window and overflowing into my bed, i have a 4 inch suspension lift to show how rlly deep that the snow was, i got pulled out after trying to get out myself. i then was driving home and i only had 3wd, my drivers side front tire would not work. and would make a serious grinding noise. what is wrong? hub blown out? its automatic locking hubs. 1993 4wd 4x4 ext cab

is it common? how much to fix myself? or take it in?

It is easy.

Option one, got to the junkyard and hope to find a good hub and swap it on.

Option two, manual hub swap. Also easy to do. More expensive but also extremely durable.

Check out the write up in the tech library on the hub swap.

I would suggest getting manual locking hubs. WARN makes hubs for ranger or you could get some off of an older ranger with manual hubs, you would just need all the little pins and washers and all that

besides the fact that unless you have lockers, with open diffs in 4wd you only have power to 2 wheels...

i have a 1995 ranger and i took it in some mud and the drivers side tire got wedged betwen some rocks and I blew my hub.It made a loud clicking i repalced the stock hubs with warn manual hubs they are alot better . You can also unlock them when not using 4WD and save on gas and get a few extra HP .Also its a very easy worthwhile modd.
