i was wondering how to tell if my ranger has a limited slip rear diff. its a 1990 with the 7.5'' rear end. i know when i was climbing an icy cement embankment i looked out and the driver side wheel would spin on the ice and then stop for a second then it would start spinning, while the whole time the drivers side was spinning. anyone got any ideas on how to tell? its got the 3.73 gear ratio.

Just look at the Door Sticker or the Axle Tag as described in the link above.

Yo,
There are several ways to tell. The first is if your doorjam sticker is still in place, look for the axle code, then comepare the code number to this chart.

The second method is also listed in the above page, that is to look at the axle tag bolted to the differential cover, and then also compare it to the above page.
The final method is to jack the rear of the truck off the ground and spin one tire, if the opposing tire spins in the opposite direction, then its an open differential, if it spins the same direction, then it has a l/s. Hope that helps!
