Here is what i got 93 4x4 with a A4ld. I have a rattling type of noise coming from the tc and flexplate area of my truck. Sounded like a cracked flexplate it did not stay contant will come and go will not do it at higher rpms. i pulled tranny exepting to find bad flexplate but it looked good. any ideal what could be causing this noise.no real problems with the shifting of tranny kinda hard when you first put in gear other than that it seems to be working fine. fluid was dark did not smell burnt. would this be a bad tc ?

I had a Grand am making the same noise and it was the TC !

Does it sound like a bunch of rocks in a drum? If it does, yes you have a bad TC.

it does what kinda of damage could this cause?? my dad drove with it like this for awhile since i got bought it from him i have not drove it.

if your lucky, you just have to replace the TC, I drve mine too long like that and had to have the tranny rebuilt !

Are you sure it's the trans? The catalytic converters are right in that area and the heat shields on them commonly rattle. It would definitely be worth at least looking into before you replace expensive tranny parts.

positive it is the tranny flexplate area i can make it do it by pushing up on the front of the tranny. i am going to check the spacer behind the flexplate i have been told they are bad about cracking and causing the tc to be misalined.they alum. shim that goes between the engine tranny was missing also so that would not help the misalining issue either. i also do not have a catalytic converter it has already been cut out. like i already said tranny fluid looked good just dark smells like good ol tranny fluid i am going to pull pan and check for metal shavings and replace filter. i got a new tc on the way and hopefully fixes it.

If the TC was misaligned the front seal would be leaking.

Exbass...the TC's are notorious for the noise he is hearing. And is very common. What happens is the TC has an internal lock up clutch thast goues bad and flies a part.

my dad had a front seal leak on it and put in some lucas in it and that help out alot but did not completely fix it. i going to install tc tonight and the new flywheel i have and rear main and front pump seal and hopefully that will take care of my issue. what type of fuild do i need to use it calls for mercron 3 but i can not find that will dex/mer 5 work??

The 5 is synthetic, you will be fine.
