I have an 07 ranger 3.0L 2wd but i am looking to upgrade to 4x4, just wondering if anybody had any information in terms of price or if its realistic to add 4x4 on to a 2wd vehicle?

Any info would be great

thanks

Could you do it? Sure. But have fun with it, both cost and time required not worth the hassel. Sell it and buy a 4X4.

One thing to note about that link/ write up vs. one that you might do, is the fact that the write up is for an EDGE model. If yours is an EDGE also, s'all good. But you probably don't, in which case the swap becomes a bit more complicated. Your 2wd has coil springs, and 4wd's, and EDGE's have torsion bars. So depending on what you do, you would have either figure out how to adapt torsion bar supension, or convert to a coil over setup.

I don't think either are bolt on parts, but the torsion bar setup may be, I'm not sure.

This has been discussed multiple times... In fact, there was a thread here in the General Discussion forum just a couple days ago on this very thing...

It can be done. Most people that do it usually go to a straight front axle because of all of the stuff that would have to be changed to make it work. IF you have an EDGE, it may be a bit easier, but if it's not an EDGE and you don't really have any fab skills yet, sell it an buy a 4x4. Or do what I did and keep the 2wd for a DD and buy a cheap 4x4 to build up (although I did end up buying a 2wd Bronco II and converted it to 4x4, but BIIs are ridiculously easy to convert over).
