i was driving my up the expressway yesterday when i heard a clunk out of my tranny, and i lost 5th. so if finshied my trip in 4th , but when i got off i relised i lost 1st,2nd,3rd, 5th, and rev. i thinking something haped to the countershaft (having only direct drive).

i have a 93 ranger stx. with a 3.0 and a m5od R1. i was trying to figure out if i should rebuild it or try and find a replacement.

It's too late to be talking about rebuilds (most likely).

You do that when it whines a bit. When something BREAKS it makes for carnage.

It COULD be the countershaft, more likely the input gear lost it's teeth.

Remember that even a toothless input gear will still give you fourth,
because "forth gear" isn't really a "gear" at all but rather direct drive.
The input gear is simply locked to the output shaft and everything
inside the trans is simply along for the ride.

It's probably dead past the point where it's any good even as an organ donor.

no, the 2.9 "Cologne family" engine in an '89 bronco2 has a different bellhousing pattern than the 3.0 "Vulcan" engine you have, the 3.0 bellhousing pattern is unique.
(well, not exactly but the only OTHER engine with the same behllhousing
pattern is a FWD ONLY engine)

You must have a 3.0 trans.
