84 Ranger std cab shortbox. The gas tank sending unit is bad and new replacements are not available anymore. I need a way to get my gas gage to work, or even run an aftermarket gage. What i really want to know is of a universal sending unit that will work with my tank?..or any alternatives? Im stumped here. Any help here would be great.

get a long stick and shove it down the filler to the bottom of the tank, pull it out and see how much you've got! :)

or when the truck stops running you know your low :P

The gas gauge on my Explorer hasn't worked for years. I just use the trip odometer-- fill the tank about every 200 miles and reset it. Never ran out of gas.

I also do the same exact thing with my '88 ranger 2.3l:icon_thumby:

Ya, I think my gage is going funky too. I was getting concerned when My trip Odometer said 64 miles, but the fuel gage was below 3/4 tank. I went and fueled it up and calculated, 26.666_ MPG. If the gauge was correct, it would be about 16 Mpg, and with a 4 banger, ooof.

thx for the links blackBII. Im thinking about trying the JC whitney kit since it worked good for you.
