i have auto a4ld and it hasnt given me any trouble so far dont know if its been rebuilt but i bought the engine rebuilt with 30 thousand k and the truck reads 483 thousand k so if its original thats pretty good.i was just wondering if you could swap in a newer a4ld instead of getting good aftermarket parts and rebuild.

483K on an original A4LD???? I would highly doubt it. Truck's most likely on it's third or fourth tranny by now.:D

As a direct replacement, you're pretty much stuck with a 90-94 4.0 A4LD.....

I think he means 483K KMs. Around 300,000 miles. Not unheard of but definitely rare.

I'm pretty sure he meant it in KM's....it's a Canadian thing, eh!:D

Most A4LD's in my area (interior region, very mountainous) don't make it past the 250,000 KM's mark (i'm one of the victim's, on more than one occassion). There are plenty of first gen Exploders in my local u-pull-it with that kind of mileage, all with discolored/burnt fluid in them. Lots of good low mileage 4.0's though.........
