People probably would be able to help you better if they knew which 4 banger you had as well as the truck unless it is the truck in your name. But they still will need to know which 4 banger.
I am guessing here but could it be bad gas? Knock sensor?

I have a 1998 with the 2.5L. I have 83,000 on the engine. I wonder if it could be my MAF. I have had it out like 3 times to clean it. Can a bad MAF cause spark knock?

When is your engine knocking, when you pull away from a stop? when you are accelerating? My '95 2.3 has always had spark knock when you let out the clutch in 1st gear. althogh lately.it has ben doing it an 2nd and 3rd gears when I let out the clutch. I suspect the the egr valve may need to be cleaned and the associated tubing to and from the valve are becoming plugged up on my truck. I ran a scanner on it last week and have no codes other than 1443 evaporative emissions, but I have had that for 3-4 years. I just reset it before smog test.

Yes! I notice it when I accelerate mainly in the higher gears. When I drive a constant speed for a long time and hit the gas it does it. I had my EGR tested and it was ok, but maybe it needsw cleaned. I can't seem to get it off. The botls are frozen on. Thanks

Those bolts are a pain!
If it makes you feel any better my truck pings like mad too, unless I'm running 92 octane fuel when the blower's disconnected, and 94 octane fuel when it's on. Maybe you need some of that Seafoam cylinder cleaner. Some guys on the old forum recommended it to me, but I never had the guts to try it . . .
