I've made the commitment to keep my truck for a little while (hey it was cheap) and have decided that I might as well start fixing some of its "features." So this is probably the first of many questions I'll be posting. I'll try not to sound like a complete noob.
93 Ranger 4WD Auto - I'm guessing it's the A4LD transmission? If I keep my foot on the gas, the transmission won't shift and will go right up to red line. If I let up off the gas it will shift, so I can make do by pretending I have a manual and just let up the gas to make the truck shift for every gear. My only real concern is that it's impossible to get merging power because it will downshift and then push the red line, and then I lose all of my acceleration by trying to make it shift.
Also worth mentioning - ATF levels have been consistent for the year I've had the truck and the fluid looks fine.
One recommendation I got from a buddy was that it might be the vacuum actuator valve. I read in one of the other posts that it might just be a lose wire or connector. Any other suggestions?
