2.3 tranny help (2wd to 4wd)

ok so as ive posted i need a tranny for my 2.9, i have one on hold. i have a 2.3 in my 90, its the 2wd tranny though. what tranny would that be? could i swap a tail shaft out of a 4 wd tranny to the 2.3 tranny? or is it just easyer to swap a 2.3 4wd tranny? can i swap a 2.9 4wd tranny into it?

These are M5OD transmissions, right? In your case it would most likely be easier to just swap in a 2.3 4wd tranny. The real question is do you want to spend more labor than it's worth swapping parts between two good transmissions to make one when you can sell them both and have more than enough money to buy the right one. The 2.9 liter 4x4 trans will not bolt to the 2.3 because it has a non-removable bellhousing. It's too bad you already have a 2.9 trans on hold, I would have probably been willing to give you a combined deal on both a 2.3 4x4 and 2.9 4x4 trans.

the 2.9 tranny i got on hold is for my 89, i was gonna take the tail shaft out of one to use on my 2.3 tranny. im glad i got this info though. thanks again.
