hey i have recently picked up a 97 ranger 2wd 2.3 and I want a little more power out of it. i have picked up an explorer 8.8 regeared to 4.10s but of course i wana swap in a 302, i wana go FI can i run a painless harness, has anyone else done it with their swaps?

I don't think Painless makes a wiring harness DIRCTLY for a ranger 302 swap. The benefit from the Painless system is the wiring is labeled, organized, and ready for you to install it how ever you want.

The hard part is trying to hardwire a, for example, a mustang harness into a ranger's wiring. I'm in the middle of trying to see what goes where in my build. My engine harness is from a 93' mustang, and it takes a while to figure out where the heck anything goes.

But, like other people have posted on here before, get a good wiring diagram for the ranger and the donor vehicle will get you started.

Plus, isn't Painless, like, $500 or more?

easy said then done

I have a 89 ranger And a 87 5.0ho and I'm attempting wiring now but aint getting anywhere painless might cost a lot but I would say if your like me and not that great a wiring get one

I got a 5.0 swap harness from some place on ebay. Think it was called the "detail zone" ( think they may be associated with FORDFUELINJECTION.COM in some way)or something like that. It was top notch, came labeled and with very clear instructions for about $425
