View Full Version : 5.5" Superlift question

I bought this 5.5" Superlift. I plan on using 4.5" ZJ springs with some spacers for about 3.5" of lift. Since the brackets are for a 5.5", can I just move the pivot bolts up to the top hole on the brackets? From the pics it looks like there's an extra hole there.

They have pivots for a 4" and a 5.5" lift.

I've got mine in a 4" pivot and I'm running about 3.5" lift. One day I'll get around to building new 1.5" lift brackets and then cut my beams for the rest.

I'm looking for between a 3.5-4" lift. So I'll put the pivot bolts through the top hole. I have a set of 4.5" ZJ springs that I could use with a 1" spacer which I believe would give me 4" of lift. Or, I could use the 5.5" Superlift springs and hope that with my heavy winch and bumper it'll settle to 4"?

Thoughts on the springs I should use?

im using the superlift 5.5" brackets on the bottom hole with 6" soft ride skyjacker coils and no spacer, with the FR34 4" leafs and F150(smaller than ranger)blocks for the rear.
seems to sit about right....may add a washer spacer up front in the future

The ZJ springs with spacers should work well in the 4" (upper) bracket holes (assuming your Ex is 2-dr).

I would reinforce the bracket supporting the driverside beam though, the tabs like to fatigue and bust off those.

How about putting a bolt through the bottom hole with "pinch" nuts on the inside. Would that reinforce it without interfering with the operation of the beams?

Not sure what you're asking... Click the 2nd pic for bigger, the tabs are reinforced with gussets to keep them from flexing and ultimately breaking off.

might want to plate the ears of the radius arm's now too. As they are known to snap.

I wonder why Superlift doesn't make them stronger?

I guess I'll beef 'em up tho.

These are reasons why Superlift TTB lifts don't come that highly recommended around here lol. At least you got the newer redesigned bracket that won't bust through the diff housing (instead of a drop plate).

So does anyone know how much the 5.5" springs would settle? 2dr Explorer with a 4.0 and 300 lb winch+bumper.

Here is a shot of my 5.5 Superlift about a week after I installed it.
It leveled out for near perfect camber after a few weeks. Stock frontend with a 2.9, no winches etc.
I would say 3/4 or so

So your's settled about 3/4 to 4.75".

I'm thinking mine might settle to 4", with the bumper/winch, 4.0, and because the springs I'm getting are 3 years old.

I would expect somewhere between 4.5-5" lift out of that setup (unless those are "4.0" coils, which will sit about a half-inch taller). The Superlift TTB springs are stiffer than others like Skyjacker, and shouldn't settle as much with added weight.

You're not going to use the ZJ coils?

I think I'll end up using the ZJ coils. Just wanted to see what the Superlift coils were capable of.

My plan is to have 3" BL and then 3.5" SL with the ZJ coils, for a total of 6.5". I think I'll end up with some good flex, keep the CG relatively low, and have enough clearance for my 35s. Right now my 35s rub at times with 5.5" and mildly trimmed fenders. And my flex is limited with F-150 coils and stubby stock rad arms.
