i have a 88 2wd truck with a a4ld i want to convert it to 4wd i have a 1350 t-case off of a 5speed will this bolt up if not what do i need

You need the extension housing off of a 4x4 tranny and the output shaft. It would be easier to find a 4x4 tranny. Then you need to figure out what you want to do for the front end.

i know the 4wd and 2wd M5OD's use different mainshafts...is the A4LD the same way? if so, its not worth splitting the case, id find a 4wd trans.

I don't know if this helps or not, but for the front end, I have heard that a TIB->TTB conversion is difficult (i.e., the engine cradle needs to be replaced). I also have a 2WD (a 1997) that I wanted to turn 4x4. I did a solid axle swap (I replaced my front TIB with a Dana 30 axle from a Jeep Cherokee, but a Dana 44 would be just as good and probably better), and it cost me about $1000 for the axle swap complete (leaf sprung), and then about another $150-$700 depending on if you want the front locked, regeared, etc.

It's definitely do-able, but will take some time and money. I bet you will feel good if you built that 4x4, but I am just expressing my own emotions.
