Hello all, just looking for a little guidance have an 88 ranger 4x4 2.3l with a suspension and 3 inch body lift. after changing if the seat needs to be moved ahead for driver, the shifter gets in the way. Any ideas on how to take off existing shifter to possibly bend or replace with one that allows the seat to be moved for the 2nd driver?

it unbolts from the top of the trans, you should be able to access it thru the floor as gen 1 rangers had a removable panel. as for a replacement???? I'd sugest looking up a local farrier (horseshoer/blacksmith) and having them put it in thier forge and bend it on the anvil. if it comes up short after that just make a threaded exstension. IIRC you will need to thread the top of the shifter also to add an extension.

on my old ranger, i cut the stock shifter about 6 inches from the floor, went and got some steel pipe that fit over it, used a conduate (cant spell!) bender, made sort of a "s" shape, then tack welded it to the shifter. i used a que ball for a shift knob, it was very comfortable, and easier to reach!
