I have manual hubs ... with the smooth perfectly round wheel bearings nut from the auto hubs. Makes it impossible to properly torque the bearings.

I went to Ford ... they don't make the manual nuts anymore. Called around, and responses were either "oh no we can't have that" or the whole kit.

Short of scouring local junkyards for Rangers with manual hubs ... where the heck can I find wheel bearing nuts that I could torque properly?

Thx. :)

the smooth nut with the 4 notches in it are the only spindle nuts (proper name) that will work with manual hubs. you can buy a special socket that torques these nuts.

any auto parts store can get you spindle nuts for the truck. it comes with the parts to do both sides (a total of 4 nuts and 2 washers). the "kit" usually sells for between $30-60. the only way to get individual parts is through a junkyard.

Dorman makes the spindle nuts and sells them individually...unfortunately, I dont have the part numbers though.

The spindle nuts should have 4 slots in them. The socket will have 4 pegs that align in these slots to tighten them. As wicked said, the socket is available at any parts store, probably labeled as a "4x4 1/2 ton spindle nut socket."

Thanks, this is exactly what I'm looking for!

The 2 auto parts I called just did not have any (but they're usually pretty good).

I'll hit up NAPA tomorrow morning, see if Dorman rings any bells. If not, I'll just drive to the US to the first Auto Parts store.

I'll check online too. With the proper name, it's going to be much easier.

Umm, there is something wrong with your Ford dealer, I just replaced a set on a 92 ranger and a 95 f150 (both use the same spindle nuts) last week and we had them on the self.

So its true that D44 spindle nuts and D35 spindle nuts are interchangable.....

Are there specific D44 spindle nuts to look for or are they pretty much all the same?

All the TTB D35 and D44 manual hub nuts are the same, as are the solid axle d44 as far as I know.

Yep, all D35 and D44 (internal hub type) nuts are interchangeable. They are not 100% identical however, the D35 inner nuts for some reason are a tiny bit thicker)
