I am replaceing the spider and the side gears in my 7.5" 3.73 raer end. I can not for the life of me get the side gears out. They are larger than the replacement parts from the dealer but the new gears are all they offer for this rear end.It looks as if the ring gear is in the way. I have pulled the shim packs out but still can not get them free. I have looked in the Tech library and the capri install states that they will come right out but they dont. I was thinking of getting replacement from the scrap yard and changing the axle.

if the gears arent the same size than you have the wrong parts. take them back.

you pulled the c-clips and axles out of the housing, right?

Is this a limited slip or open rear end?

You probably have to remove the ring gear from the carrier.

I think it is an open. I have the c clips out. I didnt want to remove the ring gear but if i do will i have to repattern the gears? I was hopping that this would be a quick change but has turned into something ugly. I can get the same rear end but with 9" insted of 10" Brakes. Is that hard to change over the brakes?

If you make absolutely sure you don't lose or mix up any of the carrier bearing shims and put it back together exactly like it came out, you should not have to reset the gears (also, make sure the ring gear goes back onto the carrier in the same orientation).
