Has anyone ever had the oil filter threaded pipe come out with the oil filter? I was changing the oil on my '95 Ford Ranger 4.0 L and I put a new filter on, fired up the truck noticed oil going every where. So I shut it down, figured the oil filter was the wrong size and took it off to find a 1" long all thread pipe sticking out of it. It screws into the engine block and then the filter screws onto it.

My question is how do I reinstall it without messing up the threads? I will have to get a new one since I trashed the threads trying to get it back out of the filter. The problem was a metal shaving in the new filter (fram) that made it seem tight when it wasn't which also screwed up the threads on the filter side.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Isn't it just a straight-threaded adapter on both sides with a hex socket in one side?

The usual answer to reinstalling without screwing up the threads is to tighten it by hand until you can't anymore and THEN use the wrench.

No hex in the center. It is round in the center I guess it was drilled out at the factory. I guess it just goes in hand tight.

yes they are about the worst filters you can buy. Stick with motorcraft.

fram=engine contamination. fram bad, motocraft good.
