my girlfriend was driving my truck to work today and put in in the corn field first mistake letting her drive but anyways she says the abs light came on and she had no brakes she said the pedal was pushing against her foot. its a 99 ranger with 3.0 4wd and of course its in the middle of a muddy corn field and the 4wd dont work. but has anyone had this problem i havent had a chance to look at it or hook up my scan tool yet
just trying to get a jump on it

did the pedal go stiff before or after the abs light came on?

during normal abs activation, the pedal will feel a bit stiffer than normal.

my first impression is that one of the wheel sensors came unplugged from diving into the field. i would start with rinsing it off and doing a thorough under vehicle inspection for loose connectors or damaged wiring.

is this 4wd ABS or just rear ABS?

I had a 99 with 4wabs and a bad front abs sensor, it was a nightmare in the snow. My front ds sensor was bad and would kick on the front abs in dry conditions when you were almost to a stop. In the snow the front would kick in, then the back would start to loose traction and then it would kick in. The brake pedal would become hard as a rock. I replaced the front sensor and no more problems.
