C4 rebuild.

Hey yall. I got a '75 model C4 Im puttin behind a 302. I need to change the tailshaft to fit up to the BW t-case so I figure this is a good time to rebuild it. Question is how hard is this to do? I hear its like brain surgery. Should I just take it somewhere and have it done or try it myself? I put a shift kit in it and that wasnt to hard but this is a whole new ball game. Any advice? :dunno:

The C4 is rather simple but depends on your mechanical ability. Get yourself a manual and the proper compressor so you can pull the drums apart. Do it methodically and you'll be fine. Get an overhaul kit, keep everything clean, and if you get unsure find someone and ask for help. As far as a shift kit just do what the instructions say and make sure you don't shoot springs across the room and loose pieces. As long as that doesn't happen you'll be fine.

Thanks Matt. I will see what I can do with it. The shift kit has been in for a while now that was no problem. Im not finding to many books on the c4, so far only a haynes manual and I am not crazy about haynes in general. They are ok but no where near a chiltons.

If you are real curious on getting a book, stop into a local trans shop they can order one for you for any trans you desire. It takes us about a day to get one.
