My teenage son wants a 3" body lift on his 2003 2wd ext cab. He's asking me for help if you can believe it. I don't have a clue on how to start. Is this a kit thing or do we take it somewhere. What are the gotcha's on this type of work. We don't want to spend tons of money on this either.

For the most part you are going to put 3in "hockey pucks", so to say. As long as you got a tall enough jack and some time you should be ok with doing this yourself.
You are going to remove the body mounts, lift the body up place the spacers inbetween the frame and body then lower the body back down and put the longer bolts in, pretty much all it is, its not as hard as it sounds.
And you can go to your local parts store or 4wd shop and get a body lift kit with the all the spacers and bolts you will need.

Thx for the help. Is there a particular brand of kit I should use?

Might get a few more views in 4x4, I'll move it there. I've done a body lift on a Chevy once, wasn't too complicated. We used a lift though but it could be done on the ground. Neither of us had done one before, it's pretty much a R&R really. Juts read the directions a few times and make sure you don't have to move anything else.

I've found a few affordable kits. They pointed out some things I didn't account for like steering wheel shaft extenders and gas tube extenders to the gas tank. You still think this is a do-able project for some teenagers (16-17 yr olds and myself)?

Definetly...........if you and him are mechanically inclined, with some time on your hands and the appropreate tools and sockets - Then no worries!

Cant really hurt any thing either, its strickly liftng the body and moving the calbes to where it needs to be!

Good luck

The one from Performace Accessories is generally regarded as the best.
4 Wheel Parts, Summit, etc. will have it.
