New(to me) winch!!

so, i picked up a lightly used warn 8000# winch with a reciever mount for 400.00 the other day. and since i am going to fab up a new bumper in the spring i didn't want to buy alot to mount it, so i am in the final stages of making a front mount reciever to tuck right under the bumper and stay out of the way.
this is with the winch mounted. i will get more pics on the weekend.

Looks good, and good buy, but I would unspool it and re-spool it correctly before using it. Making sure there are no kinks in the cable......

Another thing to look for would be frays , Birdcages, And thinning of the wire. (all signs of to much strain on the wire)

As soon as I get my bumper mounted and winch wired in I'm pulling all of the cable off of the spool and getting synthetic rope.

i am going to pull it off this weekend after i get the mount finished. i used to work for a towing company and we used to have to check the cables once a week. and besides working better spooled properly, it looks much nicer too lol.

Very nice find, warn's are a well made product. i would put a new cable on and start fresh then u know what u have.

Get rid of the hawse fairlead if you plan on running that steel cable.

Looks like lght-relocation may be in order!

I think the winch blocks all usable light from them.

Other than that, looks good. Nice and simple way of mounting it!

some more pics, here's what i started with.

and after a little cutting and welding and fitting,

i am making this a bolt in(kinda) so its welded to the bumper brackets and bolted to the bumper, and then its braced to the engine cross member and the frame.

i know it doesn't look pretty, but its not gonna move at all when i get done with it.
