Is he on a budget? First off if he dosent know a thing about turbochargers i would encourage him to a book or spend time online learning about them. It can be done on a budget. i spent a weekend and about 150$ worth of materials and built my turbo 4.0. However its still not tuned yet.

The exhaust manifolds can be flipped saving you cashola and time trying to figure out a way. The turbo is a single T3 that i pulled out of the wrecking yard for 16$. I taped the timing cover for the oil return

is the 4.0 a ohv or a sohc? and what year? the ohv is pretty strong. it has forged rods/crank from factory. the block is stronger than any power that can be made with a 4.0. the pistons are cast but ive never broke one even when severe detonation beat up my old NA motor. I would leave the motor alone it can take alot of abuse
