Last night i replaced the head gasket and other gaskets in my 2.3l twin plug motor.I got it all back together and it's cranking but not starting.I checked the emergency cut off switch thinking that was it and it was not.I checked the timing and I'm pretty sure it's where it needs to be.This truck is all I have since I wrecked my mustang and I need to get it going.Can anyone help?Ideas?
 
pull the plugs check to see if they are wet with fuel, do a compression check, and make sure you have spark, for a motor to run you need...
1-compression- compression test will tell
2-fuel- checking plugs will tell
3-ignition- pull a plug wire while (someone else is) cranking
4-timing (valve)- compression test will tell
5-timing (ignition)-put motor on TDC and see where the ignition rotor is pointing (should be at #1 cyl.)

I checked the plugs before as well as the fuel rail to see if there was any pressure in the fuel rail itself.Correct me if I'm wrong.

Does the auxilary chaft have anything to do with the engine not firing?It has a timing mark as well but I can't find any information on a specific position it needs to be in,
 
If you're running DIS then, no, the auxiliary shaft position is irrelevant on this engine...if you have a distributor then it needs to be aligned with the notch on the crankshaft pulley...

You can also manually align the distributor to point to the first plug on the distributor if applicable...
 
It does have a DIS module.I just can't figure it out.
 
I think you left something unplugged. check the spark.
 
Yeah, make sure the coil wire is plugged in...if you have a DIS module then don't worry about the AUX shaft position...see if you get spark when you crank it...remove one of the plug wires and see if it arcs...if no spark that's your problem...

Did you say the plugs were getting fuel? The plugs would be wet or at least smell like gas if you were...

might also replace CPS and isnt the ignition timing on that timed off cam ..... a sensor on the cam sprocket?
 
The ignition timing is not timed off the cam, the DIS ignition module could be bad, damaged, or unplugged (it's mounted on the front of the lower intake manifold with 3 small bolts)
 
and if you took the ICM off while doing this work and didn't put the bolt back in the bottom left hole it won't fire.
 
Could the crankshaft timing sensor have anything to do with it?Maybe it's not set right?
I know from factory it comes set at 10 degrees before tdc.But if you're timing the motor right(#1 cylinder, tdc on the compression stroke) then it chouldn't be a problem right?
 
ICM Ignition control module. yes, the bottom left bolt is the one that grounds it. if it's not grounded you wont get spark.
