Hi guys

I want to put a 302 in a Ranger. I already know I'm going for EFI, and I'm going to use an extended cab 93 - 97 Ranger for my base. I've done an EFI motor swap before, but I would still like to keep things as simple as possible.

Here is my question: I'm using a manual trans, and definently prefer having 4WD. That in mind, I could deal with an auto if it let me have 4WD. Is it possible to do that? If not, what is the easiest motor/trans combo to swap a 302 in? Can I keep the stock 5-speed/auto or would I need a trans too?

Just go get a donor explorer. There are different manual transmissions you could use.
Just read up on it before you start your project. There is a wealth on info on this site if you are into reading. When you are done reading and still have questions feel free to ask away, someone will have an answer for you.

exploder setup in the 95+ recomended(same dash so just transfer everthing from the exploder cluster and all wiring behind the dash, or mustang/thunderbird 5.0 HO

to keep 4wd w/manualswap a m50d with the 97+ f150 top cover and it will put the shifter in the stock location.

What I meant was, is it better to start with a 4 cylinder, or one of the V6's? And are the years of 93 - 97 good years to use?

Makes no difference which engine it's equipped with from the factory, you're not going to reuse any of the engine or transmission anyway. If you have the choice to pick from, look at one that's already got an 8.8 rear. That would be a slight plus, slight I mean by yea, it's an 8.8, but it'll also just have 28 spline axles instead of an Explorer/Mountaineer's 31's.
