My neighbor has a secon gen (not sure what year) 4x4 super cab ranger with a bad head gasket. What do you guys think? Push button 4x4 still works. Is there anything i should be aware of if i do? I love my truck but i don't love driving it in the snow. Thanks!

That's a difficult question to answer. Are you sure it's just a head gasket and not something more serious. Good four liter motors are plentiful in the scrap-yards due to transmission failures so it's sometimes easier to just change motors than open up a can of worms. Depends what motor the truck has in originally of course.

Keep both if you can...the 4X4 will serve you well...when you really need it...but the 2.3 is probably way better on gas...how often do you REALLY need four wheel drive? I live in a pretty snowy area and my Zuki is a 4x4...but I've only really HAD to use it twice...in over four years of driving...

Having the extended cab is nice though...my previous Ranger was regular cab and I hated the cramped quarters...the new one is extended and, though I haven't driven it officially yet, I love the extra room for all my roadside junk and accessories...

Well, i think i'm gonna do it if he'll trade me straight up. I'm assuming the motor is a 2.9 but hell it could be a 4.0. My gas tank leaks like crazy, so i end up getting better mileage from my v8 grand cherokee anyways.

Lord, why can't i find a 2.3 4x4!!!
