Well i finally broke down and bought my dream truck. Its a 08' F-150 4.6 4x4. Now the Ranger can become a project truck, and the F-150 is my new DD.
What you all think?

She's a real Beauty. I Like the F-150's ALOT. And the 4.6 will give you all the power you'll ever need (unless you need to haul big loads). Congratulations.

My old man has an extended cab, long box 2008 4.6 F-150 and I find it's rather sluggish. I'm not sure it even gets better fuel economy than the 5.4. Nice truck though, regardless.

The 4.6 will be alright if you dont do alot of hauling...
The 5.4 is a hoss!

Thanks everyone, yeah I thought getting the 4.6 would save a little gas, but vehix says they get the same, but I don't do enough hauling really to justify the 5.4 so the 4.6 will be plenty, and it sure beats the 94 2.3 I'm use to. I want to do the leveling kit, and just put some nice A/T's on it for now, and a nice exhaust.

those trucks are AMAZING my friend had a 05 f 150 crew cab 5.4 4x4 an dam did that think ride amazing an it was suprisingly good on gas, but he decide to upgrade to the 08 f250 extended cab short box cuz his parents have a 30" camping trailer an the f150 struggled towin it. nice truck to but doesnt drive like a f150.
but anyways you got yourself an amzing truck hope you like it

oh god I hope your kidding.I've driven a few and there is no torque.I wouldn't wanna haul or tow anything bigger than a fat guy. You've obviously never driven an old 5.0 or 5.8.Ford needs to bring back real motors and real trucks. The days of real trucks with real engines and real axles are gone.

5.4l
260 hp (194 kW) and 350 lb·ft (475 N·m) ratings for 1999 and later model years
5.8 L V8 210 hp (155 kW) 325 lb·ft (440 N·m)
Congrats ford you produced a motor that feels like a anemic 4 banger gets shit gas mileage and only have 50 more hp and 25 lb ft torque than a 1980's technology engine.YAY

My uncle has a 2000 ford f150 with the 5.4 and it pulls his 18ft dovetrail trailer with a 4,500 hundred pound car on it just fine... It seems to have plenty of torque... His truck doesnt do to bad on gas...
The windsor based engines are good engines! I'm a HUGE fan of the fox body stangs, I've owned an 86 gt top top car, 87 gt, 88 gt, 90 coupe, all 5 speeds.
I'm actually picking up a 90 hatch lx roller from my buddy, 35,000 orginal miles... I'm sticking with a stock mustang block, gt40 p heads, gt40 intake, stock h.o cam and 1.7 rockers, 3:73 gears, and a few other bolt ons... It should be good for a mid/high 12 seoond 1/4 miles..

its funny my 4.2l v6 put out 8hp less than a 5.8, and 75 less ft-lbs and its based on the old 80's 3.8...

Very nice trucks!
I traded in my ranger about a month ago for a Black 2008 F150 Screw 4x4, 5.4l XLT w/xtr package.
It stayed stock for 2 weeks...
So far mine has a truxxx leveling kit and 35" BFG KM2's

Even with 3.31 gears my 2v tows my 5000+ tractor without breaking a sweat. Hauled my grandfather's S-10 to the shop to put a brake line on it, aside from some traction issues starting up a steep gravel hill after a stop sign I wouldn't have known it was back there.
I would put it up against any stock 351W in a similarly equiped truck, torque is the name of the game, something having the most stroke of any Ford light duty truck V-8 greatly helps. I will leave the 302's for my brother's 4.6 to tear apart, they ain't worth my time. I have driven both, neither impressed me in a half ton truck... hence why I didn't get one. They were great motors in their time, but the powerplants that replaced them are doing a right fine job of making them obsolete.
Mine got 18mpg loaded down with fishing gear last summer, I have never heard of a windsor in a truck getting that kind of milage.
Your figures are for the 2v engines (like mine) the 3 valve engines in the 2004+ trucks have 300 hp at 5000 RPM and 365 lb ft of torque at 3750 RPM. My 2v has 260 hp at 4500 and 350 lb ft at 2500... pretty darn low in the powerband IMO.

That is exactly what I want mine to look like, so it is true that you can do just the level kit and easily fit 35's?
What gears does it have? I think mine is the 3.73 so how do you think it would do with 35's?

I have the stock 3.73 with 35s... its not to bad. A tuner really helps.

I dont know if you would use the word "easily". I had to trim just to clear my 33" with a 2.5" leveling kit, but my 33s were 13" wide and where on a 9" wide with with 5" backspacing. With the correct wheel/35" combo it can be done but I am sure there is so trimming required. Check out www.f150online.com and you will find many with a leveling/35" combo.

Awesome, thanks for the advice, I really don't want to put a huge tire on, just one that fills the fender a little better, maybe a 33 would be plenty. What tuner do a lot of people use? I am looking at the Hypertech's Hyperpac since it has the nice touch screen and just seems to be very useful.
Edit: I just noticed that it doesn't look like they make that for my truck but I hope they do soon. If not the Hypertech Max Energy looks pretty decent.

All I have is a leveling kit, I didn't do any trimming. I think as long as you don't go any wider than 12.5" and keep the stock wheel offset you should be okay with 35's.
I have 3.73's. Its not too bad. I do have the Superchips tuner as well, I didn't notice a huge improvement with it, but I bought it mostly just to adjust for the tire size.

Ok- ya, i can see a 35" fitting with a leveling kit with stock wheels... Any idea what the backspacing is on stock?
As for a tuner, I run an Xcal2 from BamaChips.
