good or bad?

i have a 2002 ranger XLT 2WD. with a 3.0 v6. i recently cut off the muffler that comes stock on it and replaced it with a cherry bomb straight through glasspack muffler. will it get worse milliage or better? it deffintly has a LOT more power since ive done this. but ive noticed it runs a lot hotter. so does that mean that this new exhast is better or worse?

mileage will be exactly the same. power (sorry to say) is exactly the same (i get a feeling theres a pleceabo effect at work here). your engines temperature, if it is higher, is unrelated the your new muffler.

hey ya it has deffintly improved power. me and 3 other people have confermed it. the temp thing i found is from the mud i havent cleaned off the engine. but ya im not imagiing it.

Milage will depend on how much he wants to hear it.

"butt dynos" arent accurate. the power of suggestion has a very strong pull on the human phsyce.

your also getting into the skinny pedal more to hear the exhuast now, so it will seem like its faster. there are certain physical and mathmatical facts that prevent removal of the OE muffler from increasing power.

until i see some dyno numbers, your imagining it :icon_thumby:

i have to agree with wicked. i did the same thing to my truck i put a magnaflow on an i thought i had more power but you think you have more power just cuz of the sound. its just in your mind because you think just because you put a performance exhaust on you goin to get more power so you have your mind set on that you are goin fast when the sound of the engine makes your mind think your goin fast. your truck might have a tiny bit more pep an littler more throttle response but you wont be goins faster.

i could only do 150kmh in my truck stock an with a magnaflow an cold air intake an the throttle cable mod i can still only do 150 kmh in my truck, the throttle cable mod will give you better throttle responce cuz my truck is a 94 an the cable had alot of slack so that helped me get better response

your mind is playing trick on ya an unless i see dynos with a legitament increase of hp an tq im sticking to it that its just your mind making you think your have more power an are goin fast thats my opinion

I don't disagree that there was no real increase in power but your truck is likely electronically to 150kph. My 07 is 5sp and it only goes that fast and it still has plenty of grunt just before it stops accelerating. There are chips you can get (I know someone with one) that will allow you 190kph or so but why go that fast in a truck?

the only time went that fast was when i first got my truck an when i put my add ons on my truck is like unstable over 120kmh lol so i never go any faster its my friends that are stupid with there car that go like 190 175 which is stupid there is no reason to go that fast.
an i drive a offroad truck its not meant an built for speed, if you want to speed get a car an go to the track, keep it off the streets you not only goin to kill your self but also other people

add ons dont really make your truck faster as much as they make it get to top speed faster.IF you want to get a higher top speed get a programer and take all the limiters off then you can go as fast as your truck can handle
