Blowin fuses

I didn't know where this would fit, other than the electrical forum and who checks that anyways right?

Anyways this is the 2nd fuse I've blown in the last month. I can't remember the number off the top of my head but it's the fuse that has to do with cruise control. Problem is, when the fuse blows, my brake no longer stops my cruise control (have to push "off").

Not only that, I can't get my electric shift t-case to go into 4lo (requires you have the transmission in neutral and the brake depressed). After I replace the fuse, everything works fine, until it blows again. What could cause this?

Well, a blown fuse usually is the result of a short...or an overloaded circuit...did you recently add, modify, or remove anything that may have left bare wires or put more load on the same circuit?

On the 98-01, ford has a faulty cruise control cutoff switch. It caused some fires, so they replaced the switch or added an inline fuse. Check that circuit for a short or exposed wire. The shutoff switch on those years is on the brake master cylinder.

If your truck is the same, check it as follows. Iff the switch failed, it could cause a blown fuse. Check for frayed or pinched wire first. If the wires are grounded or broken it could cause blown fuses. With the brake applied, a probe light should light on both sides of the switch. If it only lights on one side, replace switch. If you get lights on neither side, probe wires toward the hot until you get light. If you get light out of both sides of the switch, probe ground side of switch (with brake applied) till you don't get light. The wiring problem is between last good probe point, and first bad probe point.

If the switch is not on the brake master cylinder, you have to check the brake light wiring for shorts and grounds. All the brake light wiring clear back to the lights themselves. Enjoy.

I agree. I would just replace that switch, its been problematic and it can't be too expensive. Beats the hell out of the truck burning up, and if in the garage burning up your house!
