I just bought an '84 Ranger 4x4 with an OHC 4 cylinder. The sticker says it's a 2.3l, but the truck is so cobbled together I'm not sure if it is the stock engine. Where would the casting numbers be on this engine? Thanks

Not sure about the casting numbers, but if it's a 4 cylinder in an 84 it's a 2.3 for sure...they only put the 2.0 liter in the 87/88 models and they were carbed...the 2.5 didn't come out until 98 or 99 so you've got the 2.3.

Is it carbed or fuel injected? I probably should know this but I don't...so I'm just asking for the sake of input...

You might be able to search the site for casting information, but I don't recall reading anything about that for a long, long time...but maybe someone with more experience can tell you what you wanted to know...

Thanks for the reply. I searched for a while before I posted, and didn't find anything. The truck has a 1-bbl carb. Jim
