ok i have an M50D behind my 87 BII. i had a buddy at a shop make me a clutch line to use my stock mastercylinder with the m50d slave. it worked for about a week, then the clutch line melted when it got to close to the exhaust manifold. so i had a new one made and rerouted it so it wont melt, but now i can't get the clutch bled. and i noticed that the fluid level drops over nite but wont go dry, and i also noticed clean fluid coming from the vent on the bottom of the tranny.

i'm thinking maybe my mastercylinder overloaded the slave?

talked to a 4x4 guy thats been alot of help before, and he said that if the master pushed to much fluid into the slave i'd probably feel a "pop" when the slave blew. and i never did. but eithe way for just over 200 bucks he is replacing the slave for me. labor and parts!

The fact that he even suggests that you can "push too much fluid" into the slave cylinder has me thinking that this guy is a little odd. You can't over-compress the slave with the factory master cylinder, they're matched and it won't generate enough pressure to do it. Honestly I think that your master cylinder still has air in it. Before dropping the transmission you really should properly bleed the master cylinder even if you have to pull it and bench bleed it. When that line broke all of your fluid drained out, right? Once you get air in that master cylinder you can't just throw fluid in it and bleed it until no more bubbles come out of the slave because odds are there is still air in the "high-side" of the master.

it wasn't him that mentioned that. it was me. my master cylinder was made for my 2.9 toyo tranny. the tranny that i swapped in is the M50D. i have read somewhere on here that some combo's of masters and slaves will over load the slave. just didn't know if i had the unlucky combo.

i spent alot of time bleeding the clutch and i believe i got all the air out. but what told me the slave was bad was the clean fluid dripping from the vent on the bottom of the tranny.

i got the call back from my mechanic and the slave was replaced and it bled perfect. so shes back on the road! thanks for the advise MAKG

Well if you didn't use the stock (matched) master cylinder with it before and it may have been the cause of the slave cylinder failure, did you change the master cylinder to ensure that it does not blow out again?

i haven't, maybe i should but i think it will be ok. i'll post on here if it does blow. i had this combo working for about a week, but then the slave went, and being that i never felt a "pop" i think it will be ok.
