to staight pipe or not?

Look around a little more on here, and even on YouTube. A number of members have posted clips of what their exhaust setups sound like. "Too loud" is kind of subjective, so it may be hard to get an accurate answer.

It's somewhat illegal, somewhat loud, you will lose of your low end torque somewhat(if the pipe is too large)

Why you looking to straight pipe it?

i was just going to put a new muffler on it but just cutting it off entirerly would be easyier i know it anit a big motor but i want to hear the engine somewhat and not the engine fan all the time lol i know a guy that had a 07 ranger with the 4L and he straight piped it and it didnt sound half bad

I would go with 2.5" tubing and a single in single out flowmaster. I had a magnaflow on it but it sounded to smooth and importish.

Straight pipes with no muffler is going to be annoyingly loud and ratty sounding.

Put a flowmaster in there or if you want cheap, get a thrush welded muffler. They are the same thing as a flowmaster at about 30 bucks.

I ran straight exhaust (no cats/no muffler) to my rear bumper. The 2.9 ran like a scalded dog & sounded like a dirt track car, but I lost 5 m.p.g. & couldn't stand near the back of the truck because it started running so rich!
So I put the cats back on & ran dual exhausts from the cats tail to the back bumpers--got my 5mpg back plus some & it sounds almost like a v-8! SO, I cut 20" off each tail-pipe and installed ------ -------- mufflers & now it sounds just like an ancient 289 v-8!!!

Ive got a 97 2.3 with a glasspack inplace of the muffler and it sont sound bad except the guy that put it on for me has the tailpipe too close to the frame.
