That depends on too many things like tire size, gear ratio, locker or no locker and type of wheeling...just to list a few.

I think vehicle weight matters 1st, then tire size, then engine size.
Rangers are invariably heavier than any Jeep a D30 comes from (especially so with Supercabs), they really aren't up to hefting around that much weight.

What frontend does your Ranger have now? Chances are it's already much stronger than any D30.

I would swap in something a little stronger like a d44 or d60 if I was going through all the trouble.

My sons wagoneer is not exactly a lightweight and the d30 that's on there is still holding together after 300,000 klm's. I admit we have changed bearings and u/j's a few times but with 33's, auto tranny and a 4 liter that makes more power than the ford. I figure it's not done so bad.

I think there will be a lot of guys using the d30 for sas conversions as the availability of d44 is limited and d30's are abundant. I know it's not as strong as the 44 by a long way but it will give you articulation. If you can keep all the wheels on the ground you can crawl through stuff that you would otherwise have to power through.

D44's can be found for cheap theres no reason to use a D30.

I believe you mean cherokee. Wagoneers came with 44's in the front.
