Ok so I have finaly decided what motor i want to swap into my truck to replace the old tired 2.3. I have done the research, and the 4.0 fits the bill. I can build the power i want out of it, and it doesn't require as much fab work as a 5.0.

I know that pretty much what i need to get to make the swap work, and I know pretty much where to get it all. But I have hit a slight sang, I need the 4.0 motor.

So my question is, where is the best place to find decent motor, at a price that won't completly kill my wallet? Is the junk yard the best route, or does someone make a crate motor?

For you, a 90-93 explorer or 90-92 Ranger would probably work best.

Avoid the 94's. They started with EGR, and that darn cam sensor that year.

AllanD would be a great person to ask about this swap....he swapped a 93 explorer 4.0 into his 88 Ranger. Once again if i recall correctly......he ended swapping over just about everthing.
