i picked up a nice 89 b2 4x4 this weekned with TIRED 2.9 with the clutch out. i just wrecked my 92 ranger 4x2 2.3 the weekend b4. and the weekend b4 that i put in a new clutch. i can do all the tranny work to swap the trany guts and tailhousing and such i had to build trans in the ranger anyway.
my question is how close is the wiring harness? is it like swapping a 4.0 from a Xplorer to a ranger? (of similar year) does the computer control the 4x4 as well? or is it a seperate computer.
im someone has done this b4 so id like some info.
thanks
IaN
Edit: the b2 has push button 4x4 control. i could find a manual t-case i suppose but preferadly not.
You'ld need: Computer, computer harness, bellhousing, motor mounts, radiator, exhaust all for a 2.3 Ranger or BII. You will also need the air cleaner hose and may need the air cleaner depending on what system you use. If you used the '88 computer and harness it would all plug in. '85-'87 would have minor differences. '89 and up would be difficult.
If you went carburated You wouldn't need the computer & harness but, you would have to wire in an ignition system.
I may have forgotten a thing or two but, somebody is sure to tell us. No difference that I can think of between 2 and 4wd (as far as this swap is concerned).
