They should ford use the same calipers for years in the eighties

yeah... that sure sounds like some good advice... :no2:

look it up online on a parts store's website. if the 87 was manufactured in 3/87 or earlier, they are the same. 4/87 or later and they are different.

Actually there are two different calipers used in Gen1 through early Gen3 Rangers

The caliper used on most rangers has the brake hose attached to
the "back" of the cylinder.

However for much of 1986 and through the end of February 1987
ford used a different caliper that had the hose attached to the
"top" of the caliper.

they both used the same size piston, but different outer brake pads.
The pads for this caliper generally cost twice what the pads for the
other caliper do and the prices for the brake hoses for these calipers
are quite frankly...ugly...

Not to mention the price of reman calipers. (typically $70 plus a $100 core)
while the "common" calipers are often $20-25 with a $20 core.

So the important questions is which calipers Vs which calipers?

I have the caliper with the hose on the back of it on my truck, and the one with the caliper on the side to put on, It looks like the hoses should just swap ok, but might have an issue with wheel clearance. I thought about bending the hose but I dont know how well that would work.
