Noise in front end out of ideas to try...

Whenever i am stopping i am getting a noise from the front end that sounds like metal on metal. I have checked the brake pads, rotors, wheel bearings. Has anyone ever had this problem before because i cant figure out what it is
 
it only happens when you brake? or it happens if your slowing down whether you're on the brakes or not?
 
Check the inside of those rims you have? might have a clearance issue...

On a 94, the calipers use the split pins.

One of mine a while back had a habbit of working out...:fie:...just far enough to touch the rim. This made a scratching/screeching sound. The sound seemed to become more distinct during braking.

All were replaced with new ones, and the problem has not returned so far.

I think the surfaces on the knuckles are getting pretty hammered, and my solution is a 95-97 dual piston caliper swap. They have a bolt on caliper....bye bye split pins. :thefinger:
 
i dont have the 20s on my truck anymore but its like when im stopping and slowing down. i was told at one point that someone said it could be a i beam bushing or some kind of bushing that is missing and a metal something is rubbing on it. its kind of hard to explain
 
What pads are you running?

Sometimes certain "lifetime" metallic or ceramic pads tend to make a squeaking sound even if they are new. Often you are better off with a cheap set.
For kicks, you could buy a cheap set of organics and throw them on. See if it goes away. If not, you've got a spare set of pads.

Tell me about it, you should see/hear my drivers side front pads. They are Wagner thermoquiets, but there is so much metal in the pad it likes to squeel like a pig, and the pads are almost entirely metal "flakes". But once thye heat up from braking, it goes away, well, mostly. But it stops on a dime.
 
I know for sure that its not the brake pads its like the whole front end moves but you cant feel it, it just makes a bad rubbing noise
 
And you say you have stock wheels and tires on it now? If not, better check that tire/wheel well clearance too. Sounds like that could be another cause. Otherwise, check to see if it goes away if you brake for a second then let off and coast at a slower speed then brake again, if it is stricktly when braking the you can single out where its coming from and whats causing it. There really aren't too many moving parts that can cause that sound only when braking.

I had this problem as well and it was the pins. If I turned the wheel one way it would make a very noticable grinding sound and if I turned it the other way I couldnt hear it. that could be one way for you to check. I had to take the wheel off to even notice the pin.
 
no matter what wheels i have on it or brake pads it still makes the noise. It come from the passenger side of my truck. Only makes the noise when i am stopping and when there is pressure on the whole front end. Also no matter if i turn my wheels or not it still makes the loud deep grindin noise
