When did the trans Xmember move inside the frame rails? I have a 90 which has the xmember outside the rails and I just picked up some extended radius arms and brackets that use the same holes as the crossmember. But wonder if I can get the other style xmember. Or just make a custom xmember.

im not sure if it went completly inside the frame, but my 93 has one side in the frame rail, and the other side wraps around it. I just cut off the part that wraps around and sandwiched it in between the frame and bracket. I have to reinforce where i cut, but it should work well.

4.0L trucks got the inside the frame rail tranny crossmember.so look for a truck with a 4.0l at the wrecker, or yes make your own.

I think I'll make my own. THen again, suicidedoors.com makes a 1/2" plate type x-member that is only $50. Wonder if it would clear the front driveshaft...
I made mine from a high lift jack. I tucked it inside the frame rail and over the drive shaft so it wouldnt be below the frame rails. Its really out if the way now.

My '85 has the inside one that bolts on the bottom of the frame on one side, goes under the tranny and goes around the driveshaft to the side of the frame on the other side. My '86 parts truck had the other one, I am not sure what the rhime or reason why is, both are std cab, long bed, A4LD, 4x4, V-6 trucks, one with the 2.8 and the other with a 2.9.
