4Wd doesn't work

I have a 2001 Ranger. The light on the dash that says "4WD Hi, 4Wd lo, and 2WD" blinks 5 times, then goes off for about three minutes. Then the sequence starts again. The 4wd does not engage. I bought the truck used and do not have an owners manual. Can anyone help me?

You might start by your fuses.

Sounds like your shift computer is not functioning. If the fuses were blown, chances are good that you would not get any lights at all. The switch would just be dead.

Have you tried stopping, putting the truck in Neutral and holding the brake (and clutch if a manual) and then shifting?
