Sounds most likely like you have a bad OD servo. The OD & intermediate servos are rubber molded servos, some times the rubber part of the servo tears where it's molded to the metal this causes a leak in the circuit & you loose OD or 2nd gear in a A4LD, 4R44E or 4R55E. The 5 speed 5R55E & 5R55W transmissions have the same servos, they overdrive 1st gear with the OD servo to make it a 5 speed. The bands also have tendency to break in these transmissions too. The OD servo is the one at the front of the transmission on the passengers side of the transmission, the intermediate servo is the other servo right next to the OD servo.
