Hey guys, I just got a ford 9 inch rear end, and i was wondering if i have to do anything to make the barkes and the e brake work, i have a 90 ranger that had a 7.5 in it, the 9 inch has drum brakes. does it all just hook up and it works or what kind of fab work must i do?

Thanks
Jon

run brake lines...thats it, your stock master will work with the 9" rear end

ok cool, i got another question, is there a cheap kit out there to convert the 9 in to rear disc brakes, or what kind of components can i get to piece together my own, and its gotta stay on the cheap side, college kid no $.
and would i have to change anything else to make the disc brakes work?

i dont think cheap and convert are in the same conversation on this one. maybe fab something from junkyard parts. i would just leave alone and run with the stock drums.

If you have the Big Bearing 9" end, I'm told 8.8" brake parts will bolt right onto it, including the 8.8's disk brake setup from the Explorers. Though I must note that I've never actually seen it done.

I read an article in Peterson's 4wheel drive about putting explorer 8.8 disc brakes onto a 9", apparently they bolt right up.
