So my neighbor is got a 93 ranger just like mine, just auto, but it his totaled. Well, I want a locked rear end, but I don't wanna spend $600-700 or whatever it cost, plus switcing rear ends is probably easier than taking a locker in and out, plus I know that fu'ker is locked.. It's got a 8.8 in it, and the same gears as mine 3.73 LL. Well, I'm taking the whole rear end out, and going to have my dad weld the spider gears together. Then I'll have a locked rear end for wheelin' or when it snows a lot and have my LL for the highway. From what I hear welding a rear end is better than locker cuz there is no slipage and it doesn't clunk. I know it pretty much ruins a rear end, but I don't care, I'll have another one. The passenger side brake drum is off so I would just hafta go to a junk yard and get it or get one off one of are BII's or older rangers we have around. Will a 84 ranger drum fit on the 8.8 cuz I'm not sure, but I think my 84 ranger has a 7.5 the rear? Maybe a 8.8 in the rear?

Oh, I almost knocked my self out jacking that thing up with the hi lift jack. It sliped and the handle hit me in the head hard with a full load on it and my head hurts pretty damn bad right now.

I got some pics, but I can't put 'em up on this POS computer for some reason.

Throughout the process of welding the gears make sure you can still get the cross pin in and out. If you cant then the 8.8 wont go back together as the shafts cant be put in.

As for the brake drum I don’t know.

Prepare for your tires to wear very fast if you do much street driving... A lunchbox locker (you'd have to get a no slip since your rearend is LS) would be around $400.

Do your tires wear out quick on street with your locker?

no a 7.5 drum will not fit on an 8.8 most 7.5's have 9" brakes and 8.8's have 10"

My 1999 Ranger has a 7.5" with 10" rear drums. But then again it also has a factory LS unit.
