View Full Version : 4.0 v6 in a samurai
i have posted these pictures before the collapse of the old bbs, but have had a few requests for them again, so here they are. feel free to ask questions. the setup is ford 4.0/c4 auto/ zuki tcase/ stock zuki axles/ 33x12.50 swampers/ toyota power steering/ Sky over the top steering/ ford f150 shock towers/ geo tracker brake lines(they are longer)/ dodge neon seats/ lots of mud and rust and a few other things i forgot to mention. oh yea, a 4.0 v6 hauls ass in a light little zuki with low gearing!

That thing is sweet! How are those sami axles holding up to the 4.0? Those things will fit in the back of a super duty hey, i know!

no problem with the rear axles. i do pop a birfield every now and then. i installed trail tough's double tough axles last feburary, and have not broken any since. i do not have a front locker installed yet though. i will install a locker, then we will see if they contiune to hold up. i have hope that they will.

i hate to drag this back from the dead but i really hope your around still.....
once im done getting my LWB samurai onto the 38s im starting on my sj410 tin top, regular things SOA, sammi axles with 4.56's, 3" bodylift, and 33's but i want more then the 45 horse the stock 1.0 provides. i loved the 4.0 in my 97 ranger and want on in the sj.
if your still around i want to talk to you lol (oh and this sj will be a dd so rad's gotta stay up front)

i would just put the sami body onto a explorer frame, theres a truck around my way done like that, has a HP 44 in the front 4.56s and 38's he wheels it all the time and never breaks anything

Except thats defeating the whole purpose of having the little sj not to mention this thing will be a dd. I already have a long wheelbase samurai with toyota motor an 38s.
And i already have the samurai axles geared and spooled waiting to go in so its gonna stay as mich suzuki as possible. Im thinking a 4.0 and then 2wd trandmission tiny jackshaft to the divorced t case thats already there.

you wouldnt know the truck was a explorer frame, it was chopped to keep correct wheel base, wish i had pictures of it.
idk how well it would hold up with the sami axles and the 4.0, she said she popped birfields alot, and if one were to have it locked im sure it would be much more frequent

Yea i figure ill break alot of axles if i beat on it but again this wont be a trail truck mostly just gonna be wheeled if my offroad truck is broke or if im driving along and wanna scout a trail.

on stock axles.................Snap :p
i never broke the trail tough axles. i even put a locker in the front. drove it for a couple years this way untill i decided that i wanted 35's.
i have since swapped in toy axles, and dual toy tcases and 35x12.50x15 mtr's. low-low is crazy low, and only usefull in certain situations but it does make me smile when i get to use it.
a few pictures of the progress

How did you mate the trans and tc? My daughter wants me to do that same thing with her Chevy Tracker which is essentially a Suzuki Vitara. I can't find anything about adapters to a Zuki tc. Let me know please...Thx.

There are several Sams running around where I live with chevy SB 350s in em... I want a bone stock one to turn into a lawn mower... I am thinking a finishing mower mounted under the sammy lock the front hubs and use the front axle as a PTO to turn the blades... Would it work?? Beats me.
