So if somone knocked on your door and asked to load your old rusty parked Ranger into his tow truck for scrap, what is a fair amount should he pay you?

Used to, they would come out and remove your old vehicle for a $100 bill, but prices of scrap is high, I am not sure of the value anymore.

Last I heard it was about $140/ton.

I would haul it myself, the vultures are going to make money on the deal and obviously not give you as much as the scrapper will give them.

i scraped out an 89 fs bronco and a 78 pontaic lemans and got 350 for the pair but that was about a year ago. i would say 100-150 based on that, but then again that was a year ago and prices are higher now than they were then.

Back in January, I was paid about $155/ton. I've been told by several different people around here that they're getting between $250-$300/ton over the summer. Commodities are at an all-time high right now.

I would think that since a Ranger probably weighs about 3000#, you should be paid at least $200/ton meaning $300. In which case, he's still making $150 on the deal.

at one point this summer the price was over $200/ton.... for more than six weeks.

it peaked at over $12/100# which is $240/ton.

I junked several vehicles... light ones like a Dodge Minivan
that I got $400 or better for.

last month at this time i was gettin 14.50-15 per hundred, now its down to 5-8 per hundred

Scrap prices crashed because of the olympics.

China shut down so that Bejing could have clean air. They stopped buying for a couple weeks, prices crashed, and wont be going back up any time soon.

As of monday, Cars were $100/ton or 325 and up for whole vehicles with cats.
